The HUC-JIR Department of Youth Programs is pleased to announce that during the weekend of April 7-9, 2006 the College-Institute will be hosting it's second Mechkar Weekend. The Reform Movement's academically-interested high school students will engage in a weekend of learning, centered on the theme: "The Haggadah: Why is This Book Different from All Other Books?"
Dr. David Aaron, Professor of Bible, and Dr. Richard Sarason, Professor of Rabbinical Literature and Thought, will guide the learning sessions, which will explore the origins of Judaism's Passover rituals, celebration, and liturgy.
Student will also have the opportunity to learn more about HUC-JIR's academic programs, explore the treasures of the Klau Library, and experience the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.
This program has been organized by the Department of Youth Programs, with the assistance of Rabbi Ken Kanter, Director of Rabbinical School at HUC-JIR/Cincinnati and Regional Director of Admissions and Recruitment, and rabbinical interns Ana Bonnheim, Amy Hertz, Joel Simon, and Evon Yakar.
