 Howard Gellis Inducted onto Board of Overseers at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion Howard Gellis of Short Hills, NJ, was inducted onto the Board of Overseers at the New York School of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion on September 21, 2008.  Board of Overseer Member Howard Gellis, Board Chair Marjorie Miller, and Rabbi Shirley Idelson, Dean, HUC-JIR/NY Gellis is a prominent lay leader of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange, NJ, where he has served in a variety of capacities on its Board, including Vice President of Finance and President of the Board of Governors of the Gates of Israel Foundation of TSTI. Gellis recently retired as the Senior Managing Director for The Blackstone Group. Rabbi Shirley Idelson, Dean of HUC-JIR/New York, said, "Howard Gellis's expertise in both the business and Jewish communal world will be a source of invaluable assistance as we strive to strengthen our academic programs, faculty, and resources on our campus." "I'm honored to join the Board of Overseers of this terrific institution, which plays a critical role in educating clergy that are central to the continuation of our local Jewish communities," said Gellis.
