HUC-JIR Students and Alumni Participate in Ride for Reform

This year's Ride for Reform, a fundraising program for the Israeli Movement of Progressive Judaism, included HUC-JIR students from the three stateside and Jerusalem campuses, as well as many HUC-JIR alumni. The ride was successful in both fundraising and helping to bridge the gap between Israeli and American Reform Judaism. Participants interacted with members of Kibbutzim Yahel and Lotan and were hosted by these Reform Kibutzim. Both stand as successful models of an alternative Reform Jewish life in Israel. The five-day ride started outside of Jaffa, progressed to Ber Sheva, to Sde Boker, to and around the rim of the Ramon crater, through the wadis of the Arava along an ancient Nabatean spice route, and down to the resort city of Eilat. The ride offered an opportunity to see some of Israel's most amazing geography.
