The Bible and the Hebrew language have played an integral part in the history of printing in the United States. The first American imprint, The Bay Psalm Book, published in 1640, includes some Hebrew type.
All American books printed through 1875 which relate in any way to the Jews are sought for the Library's Rare Book Collection of Jewish Americana. This collection includes early printed Hebrew Bibles, prayer books, periodicals, Hebrew grammars, travel books about the Holy Land, and books printed by and about Jews and Jewish life in the United States.
Evening Service of Roshashanah, and Kippur: orThis Spanish Rite prayer book is the first Jewish liturgy printed in the English language and the earliest edition of a Jewish prayer book printed in America.
