Some recent books on Sephardic Jewry

Next week the Hebrew Union College-JIR will be co-hosting a three day conference sponsored by the Maurice Amado Foundation, together with USC’s Casden Institute, and UCLA’s Center for Jewish Studies.

Integrating Sephardi & Mizrachi Studies”, a research & practice conference, will take place on the three campuses November 16-18, 2008.

The Frances-Henry Library, together with the Tartak Learning Center, will have a display in the lobby of HUC, featuring a selection of our Sephardic & Mizrachi materials.

Learn more about the conference and check out some wonderful guides on Sephardic and Mizrahi Jewry.

A new year... and a new HUC campus?

Announcing the creation of a new HUC-JIR virtual campus in Second Life!

What is Second Life you ask? It is a virtual space where people can place anything they want. It is sort of a 3 dimensional video game without the game. Better than Youtube, more interactive than Facebook, this is a space for you to access online library materials, to meet with friends, classmates, and collleagues from other campuses, or from anywhere in the world.

We’ll be having a kick-off event in celebration of Sukkot, October 15, from 9-11 am Pacific time (12-2 Eastern time)

Join in the opening of our own Second Life by taking the following steps:
Use this link to get to the HUC building: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Talis%20Cybrary%20Island/62/221/22/ . If you are already a member of SL, the link will take you directly to Talis Cybrary Island. Click on HUC on the map-board to get to our building. If you are not a member, you’ll be sent to the main Second Life site (www.secondlife.com) to enroll, (it is easy and free.) After you’ve signed up, you’ll be directed to HUC.

I would be happy to talk to you, email with you, or meet you "in-world" to show off our new library space.
