Sean Earley
Gay Bar
Oil, canvas
42"
x 42"
Collection of Eve Goetz
While the stereotype is no longer as prominent nor
pernicious, gay men and gay bars were often seen
as loud, flashy, and audacious, with high amounts
of energy and hyper-sexuality. Earley’s painting flies
in the face of the stereotype, showing masculine
men enjoying low-key activities.

Engelman’s art casts light on the vulnerable and
forgotten through a passionate concern for the
human condition. She addresses the global plight
of women and children who have been victimized
by physical and sexual brutality. Her two-part
installation is a call to action to eradicate oppression,
enslavement, and abuse.
