10 Great Texts - Session 1 The Study of Talmudic Stories,
Ta'anit 23A Honi ha-Me'aggel
with Rabbi Norman Cohen, Ph.D. (Midrash)
The story of Honi ha-Me-aggel is one of the best known Talmudic miracle tales. Norman Cohen challenges us to look beyond the simplest reading to uncover meanings and lessons built into the language and structure of this piece. His reading of the text reveals not only many nuances hidden in this story but also teaches us much about midrash and the aggadic process.

Issues and struggles with health and healing are central to the pastoral roles that Jewish professionals play in sustaining communities, individuals and themselves. This course package addresses wellbeing from many perspectives – from the medical to the spiritual, from the musical to the textual. Studied together they will deepen and strengthen the skills and insights of all K’lai Kodesh working in any aspects of modern Jewish life.
Learn more about the courses in this package, many of which were co-sponsored by the HUC-JIR Kalsman Institute on Judaism and Health, and about the special introduction and study guides from Rabbi Julie Pelc, former Assistant Director of the Kalsman Institute.
