The Perfect Venue

Located in the beautiful and historic NoHo/West Village neighborhood of lower Manhattan, HUC-JIR is the perfect venue for your next conference, meeting, life event (religious or secular), party, screening, or performance. The building is within walking distance of Washington Square Park and features a centrally located address close to public transportation, coupling charm with convenience. HUC-JIR offers a range of beautiful and versatile spaces, from our bright oak-paneled Chapel and our Petrie Great Hall, displaying art from our critically-acclaimed Museum to our large and small conference and classroom spaces located on all levels of the building. Whether you are planning a private religious ceremony for family and friends, a community celebration, or a large conference open to the public, One West Fourth Street may offer just the location and amenities you need.

Chapel

Adorned with golden oak and Yaakov Agam’s acclaimed stained glass windows, Ark and Eternal Light, the Minnie Petrie Synagogue, or chapel, will provide an elegant backdrop for your wedding, recital, theatrical performance, public lecture, film screening, or other events. The chapel holds 245 people and, thanks to our versatile seating, the space can be reconfigured to your preference. For occasions that might require a dressing room, green room, or backstage area, one can access or exit the chapel from a private entrance and retreat to a reserved room on the conference level. Capacity: 245 Persons

The Museum

Since its opening in 1983, the HUC-JIR Museum has served as the premier location for Jewish contemporary art in New York City. Fittingly, the Museum finds its home in the Petrie Great Hall or lobby, and Backman Gallery of the New York campus, amidst a neighborhood that is rich in art, history, and culture. Equally striking are the three-story ceilings and glass windows at the front of the lobby, which offer an abundance of natural light, in addition to the warm lighting that fills the rest of the lobby. The lobby/Museum functions wonderfully as a reception area for an event that takes place in the chapel. Please note that artwork in the Museum is subject to change. Capacity: 100 Persons

Conference Level

The spacious conference level features a partially sky-lit lounge, reception area, full-service kitchen, and multi-purpose space. The ample wall space in the lounge and reception areas allows for an easily transformable canvas for your event. With a total capacity of 227, the multi-purpose space is ideal for conferences, as partitions can separate the space into three rooms, or can open up to the lounge area.

Capacity

  • All Conference Rooms: 227 Persons
  • CR 1, 2, OR 3: 70 Persons
  • CL Lounge: 167 Persons

Classrooms / Meeting Rooms

For smaller, more intimate meetings, HUC-JIR offers ten medium-sized conference rooms and classrooms on the top floor, three of which feature smart boards, microphones, and projection screens. Capacity: 12 – 25 Persons
