Mission of the Department of Adult Jewish Learning and Living
By establishing a national program focus of Adult Jewish Learning and Living and placing it at the core of the institution, alongside its historic mission of professional training and leadership in the Jewish community, as well as scholarship in the various disciplines of Judaic Studies, HUC-JIR has made an unparalleled commitment to serious study for Jewish adults. This national program encompasses all activities at HUC-JIR that transcend the boundaries of its professional training programs (Rabbinical School, School of Sacred Music, Schools of Education, School of Jewish Communal Service, Graduate Schools). However, joint efforts also will take some cases -- particularly in the training of paraprofessionals (such as the Para-Rabbinic Fellows Program) or in related areas that border on professional training.
