As you begin to prepare for your study at HUC-JIR, we want to provide you with information on a few items needed before the first day of classes.
Intent to Enroll & Enrollment Confirmation Fee
To notify the National Office of Admissions that you accept our offer of admission, please use the online Enrollment Confirmation Form to submit a credit card payment for a non-refundable $150.00 fee.
The fee is waived for candidates of the School of Graduate Studies. Please use the alternative Enrollment Confirmation Form.
It is HUC-JIR policy for all enrolled students to submit medical information that is added to your confidential student record, in fulfillment of certain governmental and insurance requirements, and to assist with any emergencies that may arise. The documents include information for you to review and forms for you to complete with your doctor. You will need to schedule a medical appointment to complete the required information. The Medical Forms can be found as PDF documents here. All medical forms are required before matriculation.
All incoming students must have their official medical forms complete and submitted to the National Office of Admissions and Recruitment no later than one month prior to the start date of your program. (Current HUC-JIR students may want to update your records).
Complete Application File
As the National Office of Admissions confirms your application file is complete, we will contact you for required elements, i.e. final undergraduate transcript, official GRE scores. If you know items are needed, please request them in advance.
All students admitted to a program of HUC-JIR that requires the Year in Israel program will be invited to visit the current Year-in-Israel Student Services Portal that includes information about housing, travel and what to expect. In addition, you will be asked to participate in a conference call in the early Spring with the Director of Year-in-Israel Program and Jerusalem Campus Director of Student Affairs.
In order to apply for a HUC-JIR scholarship you must complete a FAFSA www.fafsa.ed.gov and use the school code G04054. Your FAFSA must be received by the Financial Aid Office no later than one month prior to the start of your academic program. If you are an international student, please fill out the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE®, found at here. Ph.D students need not fill out a FAFSA in order to receive your designated scholarship - it is automatically given as part of your enrollment confirmation. Learn more.
Campus Placement (for new rabbinical students)
Applications to the Rabbinical School is made to HUC-JIR, not to a specific campus. Once admitted to HUC-JIR, you have the opportunity to indicate your campus preference using the online Campus Placement Form. Please visit our placement webpage for the online Form and information about each campus. While we give every consideration to your preference, the College-Institute reserves the right to assign you to any of the three campuses (Cincinnati, Los Angeles, or New York) for your studies following the Year-in-Israel program.
Results of the Hebrew Proficiency Exam
For candidates offered admission to one of HUC-JIR’s programs requiring the Hebrew Proficiency Exam, results of the exam can be expected within one to two weeks after the admissions committee interview. Results are communicated via email indicating level of achievement and invitation to or exemption of the Pre-Ulpan program on the Jerusalem Campus.
Year-In-Israel Exemption Option
For candidates offered admission to one of HUC-JIR’s programs requiring the Year-In-Israel and have passed the Hebrew Proficiency Exam, there is an option of requesting an exemption from the Year in Israel program by sitting for the Year-In-Israel Exemption Examination.
