Frequently Asked Questions about Youth Leadership Programs

How much do the programs cost?

The program fee is typically between $100 and $150 dollars. Most programs offer early registration discounts.

What is included in the fee?

The fee includes everything except for travel. Once you arrive in Cincinnati, all food, lodging, and local transportation is included.

Are these programs only for student who want to become rabbis? 

No. Though some of our participants may be considering becoming a Jewish professional in the future, the programs are designed for all Jewish students, regardless of their background. If you are interesting in HUC in the future, we can arrange for you to meet with the director of the Rabbinical school during one of our breaks.

How do I book travel?

Be sure to arrive in Cincinnati on the Friday of the event, between 12:00pm and 4:30pm if by plane, and arrive between 5:00pm and 5:30pm if by car. The program ends at 11:00am on Sunday. Flights should be scheduled as close to 1:00pm as possible. If you are flying to Cincinnati, the airport code is CVG.

What goes on during these weekends?

We have a full weekend planned to allow student to bond other participants from around the country. They will experience the resources of our campus, including the American Jewish Archives, the Klau Library, and the Rare Book Rooms, as well as local treasures such as Plum Street Temple. We will celebrate Shabbat together, participate in song-sessions, do some learning with our world-renown faculty, and experience some of the fun social attractions of Cincinnati.

Frequently Asked Questions about Financial Aid

Upon request, we do offer need-based scholarships to our programs. If you need financial aid, please complete a scholarship application.

How long will it take to receive my check?

It generally takes 4-6 weeks to process the check. We will begin the process upon receipt of the form. Please not that we are not able to send out the checks until the program is completed.

How do you determine the amount of financial aid?

This is need-based and is largely determined on the cost of travel. If you have no yet booked your flight, we will research the cost of your trip and base the amount on the projected fare.

What if we need more financial aid thant the amount you give us?

We will do our best to ensure that the cost of the program does not prevent you from attending. If the amount of financial aid we can initially provide in insufficient, please let us know and we will work to find an alternative solution.

Can the participant take the check home with him/her at the end of the program?

Yes. If the check has been processed, we will be happy to send the check hom with the participant. Please indicate that you would like us to do this in place of writing a mailing address above.

Should I book my ticket now? Or wait until I receive my financial aid?

You should definitely book your ticket as soon as you have registered and you can confirm you are attending. We will reimburse you for the amount of your awarded financial aid. If you are unable to book your ticket without first receiving your financial aid, please contact us.
