As a cantorial student at the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music, you will discover Judaism’s unique musical heritage, the beauty of the ancient cantorial tradition, and today’s innovative expressions of spirituality. At the same time, you will be encouraged to envision how you can lead worship, inspire learning, offer pastoral care, and compose and present a myriad of styles of traditional and contemporary music as part of the increasingly diverse role of the contemporary cantor. “While seeking to express my creativity and Jewish identity through classical music, I realized that as a cantor I would have the unique opportunity to interact with people in a meaningful and musical way. CANTORIAL CERTIFICATION
Are you currently serving a Reform congregation as a Cantorial Soloist and passionate about becoming a Cantor, but full-time immersion in seminary life is not possible? This part-time combination of face-to-face classes and distance learning gives you the opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills while continuing to live and work in your community. |
