Become A CantorFind artistic and spiritual fulfillment as a Jewish leader.
Do you have the ambition to share music with others as a spiritual leader? Apply your talents in ways that will lift spirits and forge community while fostering your personal creativity.
As a cantorial student at the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music, you will discover Judaism’s unique musical heritage, the beauty of the ancient cantorial tradition, and today’s innovative expressions of spirituality. At the same time, you will be encouraged to envision how you can lead worship, inspire learning, offer pastoral care, and compose and present a myriad of styles of traditional and contemporary music as part of the increasingly diverse role of the contemporary cantor.
“While seeking to express my creativity and Jewish identity through classical music, I realized that as a cantor I would have the unique opportunity to interact with people in a meaningful and musical way. Hearing my own choral composition performed by my classmates fulfills some of my greatest hopes – to share new music, inspire others, and contribute to the world of Jewish music.” — Ben Ellerin, Cantorial ’15
