At Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, students are part of a community of scholarship, faith, and activism. Students, faculty, administrators, and staff join together in opportunities for learning and worship, and in social justice projects.

The variety of graduate programs offered by the College-Institute enables students to study side by side with students training for other professional fields. The setting provides an important model for the shared leadership roles. Students attend student/faculty retreats, may become active in student governing associations, and benefit from Alumni and Scholar-in-Residence programs. Among the many activities of the student body are a student speakers' bureau, a cooperative bookstore, a variety of social action projects fostering Tikkun Olam, such as a soup kitchen, as well as a Jewish Early Learning Cooperative on the Cincinnati campus.

The diversity of the geographic locations of the centers of learning provides students with distinct opportunities for student pulpits, internships, and community service. Students are engaged in academic work, teaching or tutoring positions, student congregations, internships, organizations or community service work, and other interests.
