Community

Los Angeles is the second largest Jewish city in North America, and third in the world. With sizeable and prominent communities of Israeli, Russian, and Persian Jews, LA is home to an array of organizations and agencies providing social services, community relations, religious community, Israel advocacy, education and culture.


HUC-JIR Los Angelese In addition to HUC-JIR, LA features such nationally prominent institutions as the Skirball Cultural Center, American Jewish University, Mazon: Jewish Response to Hunger, the Wiesenthal Center and the Museum of Tolerance, Brandeis-Bardin Institute, the Spielberg Shoah Foundation, the Righteous Persons Foundation, the Zimmer Discovery Museum, Jewish Television Network, Progressive Jewish Alliance, Yiddishkeyt LA, and Jumpstart, among others. It also houses regional offices for national and international Jewish organizations, including the American Jewish Committee, ADL, JNF, AIPAC, J Street, Peace Now and the URJ.

In addition, the area has some of the finest colleges and universities in the country, including USC, UCLA, the Claremont Colleges, and other UC campuses, offering Jewish studies, research centers and Hillels. The Jewish Journal is one of the finest Jewish newspapers in the country, providing in-depth reporting across the political, communal, and cultural landscape, and the Jewish and kosher culinary scene is as diverse and plentiful as the Jewish population, with kosher deli, Israeli, Ethiopian, Persian and noveau American cuisine all readily available.

Jewish Communal Professionals of Southern California (JCPSC) With all of these resources, the LA Jewish community provides a unique set of opportunities for both personal Jewish expression, as well as student internships and professional positions. The local professional association, the Jewish Communal Professionals of Southern California (JCPSC) is one of the largest and most active Jewish professional networks in the country with multiple programs throughout the year for professional development and networking.
