Dr. Reuven Firestone will present on Whirling Dervishes of al-Rumi at UCLA, April 4th, and on new film on the Crusades, "Kingdom of Heaven," at USC on April 18th

Dr. Reuven Firestone, Professor of Medieval Jewish Studies, will present the introduction to the Sufi poetry and philosophy of al-Rumi for the "Whirling Dervishes of al-Rumi" dance program at UCLA's Royce Hall on Monday evening, April 4th.
Join journalism professor Diane Winston, USC Annenberg's Knight Chair in Media and Religion, for a panel discussion with scholars, religious leaders, and film critics about the soon-to-be-released film Kingdom of Heaven , directed by Ridley Scott.
The panel discussion at USC's Annenberg Auditorium on April 19th will feature:
- Aymen Khalifa, a cultural consultant on Islamic issues who advised Scott on the film
- John Aberth, historian and author of "A Knight at the Movies: Medieval History on Film"
- Reuven Firestone, professor of Medieval Judaism and Islam at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles and author of "Jihad: The Origin
of Holy War In Islam"
- Diane Winston, holder of the Knight Chair in Media and Religion, will moderate.
