 Professor Jodi Magness presents archaeology lecture at HUC-JIR/NY - April 13 at 6 pm The Irma L. and Abram S. Croll Center for Jewish Learning and Culture Professor Jodi Magness Ossuaries and the Burial of Jesus and James Professor Jodi Magness, field archaeologist, popular speaker, prolific author (most recently of The Archaeology of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls), and expert on Palestine in the Roman, Byzantine and Islamic periods, will deliver an illustrated lecture on the controversy surrounding the authenticity of an ossuary (container for bones) with an inscription that some have claimed to be that of James, the brother of Jesus. Jodi Magness is the Kenan Distinguished Professor for Teaching Excellence in Early Judaism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A popular speaker and prolific author, most recently of The Archaeology of Qumran and The Dead Sea Scrolls, Magness has participated in 20 different excavations in Israel and Greece and is currently co-director of new excavations at the Roman fort at Yotvata, Israel.
