HUC-JIR/Los Angeles's 50th Anniversary Noted by USC

USC and HUC have established outstanding academic reciprocity, with joint-degree programs and shared resources. Trojans applaud a 'fruitful partnership' that strengthens both institutions.
"USC offers students an education in Jewish studies that most universities cannot hope to match, thanks in large measure to our strong bonds with Hebrew Union College," said Joseph Aoun, dean of USC College (left), who presented a commendation to Rabbi David Ellenson, president, HUC-JIR, and other HUC officials on behalf of USC President Steven B. Sample.
Joseph Aoun, dean of USC College, has presented Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) with a commendation to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
For more than 30 years, HUC-JIR and USC have established outstanding academic reciprocity, with HUC-JIR serving as the de facto Judaic studies program for USC undergraduates, and HUC-JIR students studying with USC faculty in a variety of programs.
USC offers a bachelor of arts in religion with an emphasis in Judaic studies cooperatively with HUC-JIR, and a number of USC Ph.D. students have done extensive work with HUC-JIR faculty.
"USC offers students an education in Jewish studies that most universities cannot hope to match, thanks in large measure to our strong bonds with Hebrew Union College," said Aoun, who presented the commendation on behalf of USC President Steven B. Sample. "This fruitful partnership has strengthened and enhanced both institutions, as well as our community. Together we will continue to instill qualities of leadership in our students while cultivating thoughtful and engaged citizens of the community and the world."
