Dr. Marc Bregman promoted to Professor of Rabbinic Literature at HUC-JIR

Dr. Marc Bregman has been promoted to Professor of Rabbinic Literature at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, as of January 1, 2004. A member of the HUC-JIR/Jerusalem faculty since 1978, Dr. Bregman has also taught Biblical Interpretation and Ancient Jewish Thought at The Hebrew University and the Schechter Institute for Judaic Studies in Jerusalem and at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheba, Israel. In 1993, he was appointed Horace W. Goldsmith Visiting Associate Professor at Yale University, and in 1996 he served as the Stroum Professor of Jewish Studies and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Bregman received his B.A. from the University of California in Berkeley in 1968, his M.A. from HUC-JIR in Los Angeles in 1971 and his Ph.D. from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1991. Dr. Bregman has lectured widely and published academic research and belles lettres in Hebrew, English and other languages on a broad spectrum of topics in both scholarly and popular forums. His most recent book, The Tanhuma-Yelammedenu Literature: Studies in the Evolution of the Versions (2003) [Hebrew] has been hailed as: "undoubtedly the best research ever done about the most complicated issue in the study of rabbinic literature".
