Before The Red Tent launched her into literary superstardom, before she wrote
her six nonfiction books focusing on contemporary Jewish culture, Anita Diamant
wrote columns for a variety of newspapers and magazines. Describing her columns,
Ms. Diamant writes “The challenge was to pay closer-than-average attention
and then shape my experiences and reactions into entertaining prose that rose
above the level of my own navel.”
With Pitching My Tent: On Marriage, Motherhood, Friendship,
and Other Leaps of Faith, Ms. Diamant took some of the best
of these columns—updated and enriched them with new material,
and ordered them to provide a cohesive narrative. As a result, the
pieces here reflect the shape of a life—as a wife, mother,
friends, and member of the Jewish community—and offer more
of the warmth and wisdom that have delighted her readers for years.
