Remembering the artistry and life of Jewish poet Yehuda Amichai, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, in conjunction with New York University's Department of Hebrew Literature, is hosting on November 29th an evening of music, images, discussions and poetry at the college.

Born in Germany in 1924, Amichai's family emigrated to Israel in 1935, eventually settling in Jerusalem. After fighting with the Jewish Brigade of the British Army in World War II, Amichai used images such as tanks and airplanes as well as portraits of personal landscapes in his poetry. Amichai's work has been translated into more than 30 languages and won the prestigious Israel Prize in 1982. The poet lived in Israel until his death on September 22, 2000.

The literary gathering will feature discussions led by prominent Amichai scholars and readings in Hebrew and English of Amichai's poems. There will also be a video and musical presentations.
