Los Angeles - On October 28th leaders of entertainment, business, government and religion came together to honor Ilene and Stanley P. Gold at the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion's (HUC-JIR) 125th Anniversary Gala. Seven hundred thirty community members were in attendance at the event that raised more than $1.6 million for HUC-JIR.

In addition, the Gold family presented a challenge gift of $500,000 for the creation of the Martin Gang Scholarship Fund for students in HUC-JIR's Los Angeles School's rabbinical, cantorial, education, and Jewish communal service programs. This Fund honors the memory of Martin Gang, in whose firm Stanley Gold was a partner, and who was instrumental in the Golds' first becoming involved with HUC-JIR. Martin Gang had served as the Chair of the HUC-JIR's Los Angeles Board of Overseers and as a member of the HUC-JIR National Board of Governors. Patty and Roy Disney have generously made a $100,000 matching gift toward the goal set by the Golds.

The event chair was Howard M. Bernstein, Chair of HUC-JIR's Los Angeles Board of Overseers. Those serving as Honorary Chairs and Vice-Chairs reflect the Golds' diverse community involvements. The Honorary Chairs were Patty and Roy Disney, Jane and Michael Eisner, His Eminence Cardinal Roger Mahony, and Kathryn and Steve Sample. Serving as Vice-Chairs were Cheryl and Haim Saban, Wendy and Kenneth Ruby, and Robin and Elliott Broidy.

For over twenty years, Ilene and Stanley Gold have helped to shape HUC-JIR's mission as the academic, spiritual, and professional development center of Reform Judaism. With centers of learning in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Jerusalem, and New York, HUC-JIR is the internationally recognized university and seminary training rabbis, cantors, educators, communal professionals, and scholars for the Reform Movement and world Jewry. Stanley Gold served as Chair of the Board of Governors of HUC-JIR from 1991-1996. Both he and Ilene serve on the Board of Overseers of the Los Angeles School, of which Ilene is Vice-Chair.

Along with their leadership at HUC-JIR, the Golds are also very actively involved throughout the community. Stanley Gold is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Southern California, the USC Law Center Board of Councilors and Board of Governors of the Kravis Leadership Institute/Claremont McKenna College. Ilene is presently the Vice President of the Board of Directors of Jewish Television Network, a member of the Board of Councilors for the School of letters, Arts and Sciences of USC, the Board of Trustees of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Camp Ronald McDonald and the Beverly Hills Cultural Center.
