NEW FACULTY APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

Dr. David Aaron, ordained at HUC-JIR in Cincinnati in 1983 and formerly Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible at Wellesley College, has been appointed Professor of Bible. Dr. Aaron received his Ph.D. from Brandeis University in 1991 and has pursued graduate studies at Universitat Tubingen, Germany, and Hebrew University, Israel. He received his B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany, New York in 1977. He has taught at Hebrew College, Brookline, Mass., Brandeis University, and Denison University, Ohio. His upcoming publications include Biblical Ambiguities: Metaphor, Semantics and a Theory of Gradient Meaning. He served as editor of Establish Yourself a Teacher, Choose Yourself a Partner: Essays in Memory of Marvin Fox (Scholars Press).

Dr. Nili Sacher Fox, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Bible. She received the Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997, and M.A. degrees in Education and Judaic Studies from Gratz College in 1989. She has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Gratz College, and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. A recipient of fellowships from the University of Pennsylvania, Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, and National Foundation for Jewish Culture, her dissertation was on "Officials and Their Roles in the State-Organization of the Israelite Monarchies."

Mr. Jonathan Cohen, completing his doctoral dissertation at the University of Liverpool, Faculty of Law, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Talmud and Halachic Literature. He is the recipient of fellowships for research on the historical influence of Jewish law on modern legal systems at the University of Liverpool and for the study of Jewish law at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies. He received his law degree at the University of Kent at Canterbury Law School in 1993. He has practiced law with a specialization in commercial and banking law at the firm Y. Salomon, Lipschutz & Co., Attorneys, in Haifa and Tel Aviv.

Dr. Gary P. Zola has been appointed Assistant Professor of the American Jewish Experience to coincide with his appointment as Director of the American Jewish Archives. Ordained at HUC-JIR in Cincinnati in 1982, Dr. Zola received his Ph.D. in American Jewish History from HUC-JIR in 1991. He has a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University (1976) and a B.A. in American History from the University of Michigan (1973). Dr. Zola is the author of Isaac Harby of Charleston (University of Alabama Press). He previously served as HUC-JIR's National Dean of Admissions, Student Affairs and Alumni Relations.

Adam Rubin from UCLA, and Sharon Gillerman, from UC-Berkeley, have been appointed as adjunct faculty to teach at HUC-JIR's Louchheim School of Judaic Studies' undergraduate programs.
