Joint Degree Opportunities

Students on each of our stateside campuses have opportunities to work toward other degrees while in Rabbinical School.

Cincinnati:

Ph.D.: Rabbinical students wishing to pursue a Ph.D. may apply to a special program that combines their fifth year of Rabbinical School with Ph.D. work in the School of Graduate Studies.

Masters of Education in Educational Administration with a Specialization in Jewish Education: Rabbinical students may pursue this degree through a joint program between HUC-JIR and Xavier University.  Courses are taken during the academic year and in the summer.

Los Angeles:

Master of Arts in Jewish Education: Rabbinical students may pursue this degree by enrolling in the Rabbinical Education year under the auspices of the Rhea Hirsch School of Education; it is usually undertaken between a student’s third and fourth years of Rabbinic School.  Rabbinical students may apply as many as nine credits of course work taken during the Rabbinical Education program toward their rabbinical school requirements.

Certificate or Masters of Arts in Jewish Nonprofit Management: Rabbinical students may earn a Certificate in Jewish Non-Profit Management through two summers of course work.  Two courses form the program may also be applied toward the student’s Rabbinical School requirements.  A student who wishes to earn the Master of Arts in Jewish Non-Profit Management must complete a year of field work in the non-profit sector and write a thesis that integrates the student’s work in Rabbinical School and non-profit management.
