Joint Degree Opportunities

Rabbinical Ordination and the MAJE Program

As a current rabbinic student in your third year, you have the opportunity to apply to the one-year education program.

Take one year off from the rabbinical program to study education and receive the MAJE degree at the end of your year. After completing the core Judaica studies courses in your first three years in the rabbinical program, spend one year focusing on the education core.

You will be placed in a “leadership” internship, where you will experience the work of an educational leader, such as: supervision of teachers, curriculum writing, running faculty meetings, attending board meetings, meeting with parents and lay leaders, and working on budgets.

As a joint rabbinical program student, you will complete a curriculum capstone project. As your academic mentors, education faculty will meet with you regularly throughout the year to discuss the application of your learning to the field.

School of Jewish Nonprofit Management and the MAJE Program

If you wish to combine the study of Jewish education with an emphasis on Jewish communal service, the Joint Master’s program allows you to earn two separate degrees.

In addition to the three years of study with the MAJE program, you will spend the summer after the Year-In-Israel program and the summer between the academic years studying at HUC-JIR's School of Jewish Nonprofit Management. Your clinical placement during the second year of study involves work in a communal agency, and during the third year involves work in an educational setting. You will complete a capstone project for each program.
